Post-Operative Instructions

Return home and rest for the remainder of the day

• For at least 24 hours or until fully recovered from the effects of anesthesia you should avoid: Operating any mechanical or electrical devices that might produce injury (i.e. automobiles, power tools, cooking appliances, etc.), walking stairs unaccompanied, making important decisions, signing important documents, consuming alcoholic beverages or smoking.
• For at least 24 hours or until fully recovered from the effects of anesthesia your childshould avoid: Any physical activity which includes: attending school, extracurricular activities, birthday parties, and active play. Your child should be carefully monitored by a responsible adult for the remainder of the day.
• Stand slowly from sitting or lying positions.  If you experience dizziness in an upright position, lie down immediately.
• Prescription medications should be resumed and taken as directed. Do not take pain medications on an empty stomach. 
• Clear liquids are encouraged and may be consumed as tolerated. Start by drinking small frequent quantities of clear fluids (water, Gatorade, fruit juice, ice pops).
• Call the anesthesiologist if you have any questions concerning your anesthesia.
• For emergencies contact 911 immediately.
